...the old VINTAGE BUTCHER BLOCK, that is..
I've been going thru things that I KNOW for certain that I can't use in the new place.
Many, MANY loads to the local
GOODWILL....
The children get what they want, which is quite a bit of furniture...
We are so thrilled some of our
loved-over-time pieces will bring smiles to our children and grandchildren.
Mr. Sweet and our two WONDERFUL children gave this
butcher blog BLOCK to me for CHRISTMAS in 1976
and IT and I fell deeply in LOVE ♥
We've been in love every since.
I love the towel holder on the side...
the other side has a knife rack but I never used it for knives.....too afraid one of the grands would cut themselves..
rolls of PAPER TOWELS...
but, MAINLY, just to look....well.....KOOL.
With the rollers on the legs, it makes it so easy to move around, just where I want it.....
When we have our fellowship group over...
or all of our LARGE family here for dinner,
I move the butcher block over to the side..
it works FANTASTIC as a beverage station...
♥
MOST OF THE TIME....
it is the middle of my small kitchen for a GRAND island.
May I just add right here...
I have never, in all the years I've had it, cut one single thing on it
without a small cutting board beneath.
I can't stand the thought of big loong knife marks all over it..
My son, DAVID, is always teasing me about it...
and we BOTH giggle. ♥ I love that man!!
When I find something I really like,
I love sharing it with you.
This doesn't mean, for a minute, that I think YOU will like everything that I do....
but, just in case you haven't tried something that I like,I want to mention it.
One thing I have learned thru blogging is how different people eat, from one state to the other. What we like here in Texas may not be the thing for people in other states...
and visa versa.

These GARDEN TOMATO AND BASIL
chips are...
AWESOME..!!
Have you tried them yet?
Have you tried them yet?
Several of you have asked "how can you think of something to post about almost every single day?
THIS is how...
I love taking photos and composing....this one post is almost ALL about POTATO CHIPS, of all things. lol
GOOD GRIEF...
GOOD GRIEF...
I have no room for the butcher block but daughter wants it.....
I am glad.
Mr. Sweet and I have worked our fingers to the bone during this last week...
Open House is next weekend but we are sure to have a few lookers between
now and then.
Several times, we've stopped to thank our sweet Heavenly Father for allowing us to
feel as good as we do at this olden age.
Many our age could never get done what we have accomplished in a few months.
We thank HIM for giving us the opportunity to go thru 53 yrs of marriage and housekeeping
and purging and downsizing and getting rid of, in one way or another, of all the STUFF we just
don't need or want anymore.
Thanking HIM daily that WE can do this and not leave it all for our children and grandchildren
to worry with.
THIS is a THANKFULNESS on this beautiful DAY.

I've had this little door hanger for probably 14 years.
One of my grandsons asked me, about 10 years ago, "what's it for, Memaw?"
I said, "O, Drew...it's just to look pretty."....and he came back with, "So really, it's good for nuthin'?"...
What's a grandmother to say? "Yep, darlin'.... I guess you're right...good for nuthin !!"
O, I do LOVE being a grandmother....
♥♥♥
7 little grand girls...3 big grandboys...1 little great-grand..
...blessings will follow me all the days of my life.
....and ONE LAST REVIEW....
I usually buy my candles from BATH AND BODY WORKS at our local mall.
If I am wanting to try a new scent, I buy the small ones...3 for $5.00,
and then if I really like it, go back later and buy the large one.
They are too expensive to buy the large one and not like it.
SOMEtimes, just smelling them in the un-lit state doesn't smell quite the same as it does when burning.
THIS one is really GOOOD !!

bj you are one of the sweetest ladies in blogland! Just reading your posts make me smile and feel good. I love how thankful you are for your blessings. Maybe you will link this post up with my 'Gratitude Sunday' party. I get a post up on Sunday afternoon/early evening. Sending you big hugs, Linda
You are so dear, bj. I wish I lived closer so I could just sit down and listen to you. I suspect you have a Texas drawl and I would (after all this time living here) have that Midwest tone to my voice. I have NOT had those chips yet but you are always tempting me with some danged good thing.
My daughter got a butcher block from one of my best friends when she moved. She had it her whole married life and not one of her 3 daughters wanted it. My daughter cherishes it. I am so glad that you are able to do all that you do- xo Diana
Once again, good luck with your open home next weekend, I hope all goes well and you have a quick sale.
Yes the grands are wonderful aren't they. I love the interaction, especially now that the girls are young teens. The boys are a bit younger but lots of fun.
Have a great weekend, maybe you can relax a little?
blessings,
Diana
Glad you're getting everything done that you wanted to BJ! Happy St. Patty's Day:@)
Happy St. Patrick's Day, BJ!!
You amaze me with your energy & creative genius...we were exhausted for months when we last moved & I swore 'never again'. It will either be to a nursing home or a funeral home before I pack up like that again.
I feel for you, Honey! It is an emotional & physically draining challenge. You're doing great & soon you'll be floating in that pool with a big ol' ice tea, just relaxing & enjoying life.
Hugs,
Rett
Oh I hope that you've had a chance to talk with your grandson again about beauty and the fact that God didn't spare the horses creating a beautiful world and you do your best to imitate Him in creating a beautiful home. I'll say! I have always loved visiting your blog, an extension of your home, and I will love visiting you in your new home, too. Praying for this transition to continue to be a great blessing. I know that it will.
Yes, I do love those chips, but I haven't met a chip yet that I didn't love. Oh, maybe not those pickle ones and maybe not the clam chowder ones. We have a lot of flavors in my corner. It used to be that Texas only had a few flavors. Glad that you're catching up. ;>
It has got to feel good when the kids claim a piece. That way you can keep tabs on it. Do you suppose that your daughter will use a knife on the butcher block?
Oh bj, you truly are an amazing blogger! I just love reading your posts! Yes,those chips are very good! I also like the sea salt & cracked pepper ones! Yummm! Best part for me they don't contain any MSG (the preservative!) you know how everyone has allergies of some sort,,well that's mine!
I'm so glad you are getting all set up in your new home! I'm sure your home will sell in no time, it is so beautiful !
Have a blessed day!
Gert
You two have been so busy. I love your chopping block, it is wonderful. I am glad your daughter wants it too. Hugs, Marty
"Uncle A." made a butcher block table for our daughter and son in law, quite a while ago. It is still in constant use, in their kitchen!!! :-)
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY...!!!
"Auntie"
Glad you are getting settled in your new home!!
Wow that is some butcher's block!
Happy St.Patrick's Day!
I love that butcher block! Sweet memories come right along with it:) Have a blessed day and thanks for sharing that candle review! HUGS!
You are so incredibly blessed, and you are so good to recognize and treasure your blessings. That is why we all adore you.
And, guess what. We have tried those chips, and they are delish!!!
bj, I do love your posts too. You have such an admirable attitude about life. And the butcher block is wonderful. We had a butcher block table years ago... daughter obsconded with it when she had her own apartment. Funny story there: as she was moving it from apt to apt, it got away from her and rolled down the stairs, out the door... and smack dab into her car! We never let her forget that story.
Oh, and just for your info... the Bath and Body Shop will exchange the candle (even the large ones)if you don't like the scent (even after you've tried it). Isn't that incredible?
B.J. you have been blessed many times over. I am so glad you gave thanks to our heavenly father for all your blessing. I love the butcher block and don't blame you for not wanting to mark it up with knife cuts. Have a blessed day and Happy St. Patrick's Day. Madeline
You are so blessed bj, and what's even better you know and give thanks for it!!!! Love all you are doing to the new home, and giving furniture pieces to your children to enjoy is priceless. I love the butcher block, I know your daughter will love having it in her home.
Enjoy your Sunday.

I am so glad you have made so much progress and soon will be in your new home! What a blessing to be able to share the things you love with dear ones.
~Adrienne~
You are so sweet. You are parting with your things much more graciously than most people ever could. And the butcher clock table is gorgeous. I hope someone in the family decides to keep it and love it and cherish all the memories it contains. The thought of it going to Goodwill would be heart breaking!
I just love your sweet attitude BJ. You make me smile. :)
What a funny thing that my mother is doing the very same thing. Her house is on the market and she is "cleaning out" She will be moving to a much smaller place. I have started kind of a new life and my boyfriend and I have a new apartment that is very large so have need for the many things that my mother is "handing down" to us.
Your grandson's comment made me smile! You are so blessed bj. I enjoyed reading your post and all the best for your open house.
Blessings from over the miles!
Sumaya
BJ you are one of my favorite bloggers. I love all happiness and goodness. I don't know how you and Mr. Sweet got everything done. Getting rid of stuff is hard, but it has to be done and maybe it will bring other people happiness the way it has you.
Can hardly wait to see your new beautiful home all decorated.
Good luck on the Open House, maybe it will sell the first day.
Mary
BJ - looks like the butcher block will have a good home, it would be hard to let it go though. I'm anxious to see pictures of your open house. It sounds like it's all coming together perfectly.
Ann
BJ, you always make me smile and also feel a feeling of awe that you and Mr. Sweet have gotten all of this done! I KNOW how exhausting it is. I am so glad your daughter wants the butcher block. It is beautiful and it will make her happy for many years now too! I thank God our daughter and SIL wanted so much of what we couldn't use too. I have never tried the chips, but will look for them on your recommendation:) BEST of luck with the Open House!!!!!! I will keep my fingers crossed and send a prayer up too. XO, Pinky
Have I told you lately that I love you? :):) Your posts give me something, maybe a sense of normalcy. Anyway..just wanted you to know.
HUGE hug!
BJ, the butcher block is gorgeous and I am thrilled she is taking it. I kick myself from time to time because I passed one by many years ago at a fabulous price but at the time I was a really poor nurse. xo, olive
I don't have room for a big island in my kitchen but I might have for a square butcher block like yours. I wouldn't cut directly on it either. I like plain potato chips best. No flavors for me.
You certainly have a way with decorating and putting things together!...:)JP
I love chips, all kinds, I would eat those in a heartbeat:>) I am so glad that you are happy in this move. I am also glad that you blogged the old house (as it shall soon be known!) so I can go back and look at your pretty decorating. I think it's beautiful, but I know you'll make the new one even prettier!
BJ,
These chips look so~o~o yummy!!!
I'll look for them on my next trip to the market!!!
You're absolutely correct about different parts of the US eat differently! A few months back you posted about "Fire~Roasted Tomatoes"! Well, dear friend...I L O V E tomatoes...and so I thought, in any form!!!
HOWever...those tomatoes nearly set me on fire!!! Oh, BJ...I had to eat sour cream to get my mouth put out!!! Since then, I've found another brand that doesn't include those hot peppers!!! Ha!
Blessings to you and "Mr. Sweet" and prayers for a quick $ale on your home!
Fondly,
Pat
I remember when you talked about your butcher block before. As I read this, at first I thought "no" she isn't getting rid of it, she loves it too much. By the end I was so happy and envious that your kids are taking your precious things. With only 2 kids, one in a condo 1000 miles away and the other a single guy in a one bedroom apartment...we can't even get them to take their own things. They don't want us to get rid of their things...but, they don't have room for them. There are a few things my daughter would like at some point, but all these family antiques...we won't have room for them when we retire to Florida and the kids don't want them. I have no idea what we are going to do. I wish I wasn't such a softy about things that belonged to my grandparents and great-grands.
bj ... So glad the move is coming along so well. I know you have worked really hard and all this will pay off for you soon. Nice that your kids want some of the things you no longer need. We are starting to downsize too and neither child needs any more stuff from us. Love the new picture of you. You look mighty trim and slim. Are you getting ready for a new swim suit?
Hugs,
Audrey Z. @ Timeless Tresures
Ah BJ just looking at your pictures makes me happy. I look out my window today and see more snow and blowing snow. It seems like every time I am booked to work we have a wicked snowfall. Your posts cheer me up.
God bless.
Hi BJ. I am a new follower a d absolutely love your blog. In fact I am reading all of your old posts.
You are a beautiful lady I side and out.I can tell by your writing what a wild sense of humor you have....Lol. I just read the a thing suit shopping experience. I laughed til I cried.
I have a butcher block too. It was a gift from hubby for our anniversary. It was in my kitchen the day we moved into our new home. I love it so much.
Thank you for all the fun posts I have read so far.
I'm glad you are on the mend. Take good care of yourself. Blessings....Becky
Wow! I am writing on my kindle and alot of words didn't come out. Sorry about that.
We've tried those tomato/basil chips and don't care for them. Johnny likes plain ridges best. I like twisted, crunchy Cheetos best. (You just KNOW I'd like twisted!)
Thanks for sharing your blue book.
Happy Blue Monday, BJ.
Glad you two have made it through the moving process. Moving is for the birds and such hard work. After all your work at the old house, do you have second thoughts about leaving it? I am sure it looks very nice. Have not tired the c hips as I try not to eat them. I am okay, but will now more after today. I hope. Sit back, relax and enjoy the fruit of your labor.
I wouldn't cut anything on your butcher block either! It's too pretty! Thank you for sharing and thank you for the visit and sweet comment at The Dedicated House. It means the world. Would love it if you would share this at my Make it Pretty Monday party which is live. Here's the link if you want to check it out. http://thededicatedhouse.blogspot.com/2013/03/make-it-pretty-monday-week-41.html Wishing you a pretty day. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
My grand daughter calls me MeMaw too.
They are so cute at that age. I will have to try those chips they sound really good. Good luck with the open house!
I so love your blog. You have such a talent of making us feel like we are personal friends.
I tried to send you a email but it bounced back to me. I want to know how to add your button to my blog.
nonie
Love, love your butcher block and how it looks in your pretty kitchen!
Robin
Funny I just today went to Bath and Body works to buy a salted caramel only to be told they are sold seasonally and will not be back til fall. Bought brandied pear instead. Yummy!!
Love your butcher block.
That butcher block is awesome! I think I might have to have my husband put his skills to work on something like this. I love it and would have a hard time putting knife marks on it as well. Have a great week!!
The basket under the wooden table does look kool. You're right about the tomatoes and chips. I've tried the combination. It's yummy. I really enjoyed your post. These are my kind of things even the color and look of the floor tile.
i like that butcher block table. i'd hesitate to put a knife against it, too.
