Probably most of you have
ONE OF THESE....
The tiny object that is attached to the wall that makes one feel SECURE.
I set the alarm one afternoon and left for parts unknown....
sometime between my leaving and returning that night, my front door apparently blew open, sitting that LOUD alarm just screaming.
Now, I am not one that keeps her cell phone near her body. Most of the time, it's in my purse, sitting across the room (or in the next) and I didn't hear that phone ring one single solitary time during the course of the afternoon and evening.(I later did find 8 calls, unanswered...I PROMISE to do better, kids !)
OK, the alarm company tried calling me...no answer...so they called MR. SWEET, in
LAS VEGAS, hundreds of miles away from our SECURED home. Son...out of town...
daughter....also out of town......Then, they called THE COPS....
Apparently, they came right over, MIGHT have found the front door wide open.
No one from the police station called me so I am still unsure what went on with that
freakin' alarm.....
(from this point, it is ALL DOWNHILL....
and NOT a pretty sight......)
Some of you know that we are packing to move...
Some of you know that we are packing to move...
Can you imagine what the police thought when they saw all this chaos .....??
meee, either.
They must have thought I was some kind of HOARDER...
hoarding PACKING BOXES....
and a TERRIBLE housekeeper.
It's one thing to have family and friends see all this mess....they know, at one time,
our house was fairly straight and clean...
It's quite another to have STRANGERS enter your home and see
"it looks like it was hit by a tornado" sight.
I was more MORTIFIED that the cops had found all this when
they came in than I was that someone MIGHT have tried to get inside....
:>(
Before I got home, son was back and came over and walked around the house
making sure no broken windows or such....
I must have just THOUGHT I shut the door firmly, turning the knob as always,
just to be sure THE DOOR WAS LOCKED....?
HOWEVER, several times over the years, some kind of signal in the air attacked my security system on our cars and set the horn a'honkin....
one neighbor had fun watching her garage door go up and down...up and down...and then, it stopped. We never did know what caused THAT.

About the ONLY room that has SOME semblance of ORDER
is in the dining room....
...where THE GIRLS hang out.
I can't help but wonder....did those cops think my girls were adorable...??? ♥
...think they stopped their search for CRIMINALS and admired my cuties ?
I think not !

This wasn't much....melted by noon...but a little moisture thatwe are really in need of........
So, I put the kettle on
and made a cup or two of
CHAI TEA
AND, what's a cup of tea without a
BISCUIT...?!!?
(I know...we eat waaay too many)

Oh- What a tragedy of errors! I hate when someone walks into a mess like that cuz you know darned well that they assume you live that way ALL the time! lol oh-well-all's well that ends well- xo Diana
What a mess. This could only happen to you. You are a lady that keeps us entertained with so much excitement.
I can tell when we are going to have unannounced visitors, it usually coincides with when my house reaches an epitome of messiness. It is somewhat unnerving to know that people (hopefully, just the police) were probably walking around in your home when you weren't there. It looks like you've been making progress with getting things ready for your big move.
The police probably did not think anything about your "mess". Believe me they have seen some terrible homes while on duty. They can tell the difference between clean chaos due to holidays or a process of moving vs someone who just plain does not care about their home.
OMG, this brings back memories of PACKING!!!!!!!!! I YI YI!!! This week will be the FIRST week in the 2 months we have been here that we won't have a PILE of broken down boxes out for the trash. I estimate we unpacked over 200 boxes so far. NOT fun:) I am sure the police realized you are packing and NOT a hoarder:)) XO< Pinky
Oh it is funny to think what the cops thought when they saw all your boxes and packing. There is a joke that makes me giggle about how the police were investigating a burglary and they called the owners and said the house was ransacked, and the owners were embarrassed cuz that's how it always is.
You'd better get a louder ring tone on that phone! I'd die if the cops walked in my house right now. The chaos is unbelievable and I'm not even packing.
My home is messier. We are packing to move too.

rofl!!!! At the 'whatever happened to our sexual relations'....not your security alarm fiasco. I've had that happen twice...but it was my fault. Only 'cause I'd forgotten to undo the alarm and opened the door.
Oh my goodness! Well at least it was a false alarm and someone hadn't broken in to rob you! Why, they would have found everything all boxed up and ready to haul away;>)
No alarm on our little home, but I always assume the robbers are just going to find my house full of my garage sale finds and things I found by the side of the road and move on! Ha!
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this story. First of all it's tough to be packing up at Christmastime, then to have this happen. Have you thought about getting rid of an alarm and just getting a big German Shepherd? That's our security alarm - and security. lol Although I'll admit, your security alarm on the wall doesn't shed - which is a plus.
Oh Hon, that was SCARY!!! Must pay more attention to that door lock!
I'm one of those, who "try" the door, after locking it, just to make sure. I know, a nut. But,it still can pay off. :-)
You got some snow. I am so *jealous.* ,-) This weather up here, is getting silly. -pout-

You are such a hoot. Thankfully the police shut your door. Wouldn't want any robbers having the convenience of all your stuff packed for them to load up. Hugs.
Living in Baltimore city you either have to have an alarm or a dog.... since i undoubtedly would be setting the alarm off all of the time, we have 3 dogs and lots of ammo! Once after someone tried breaking into my back door I made a sweet little welcome sign with hearts and flowers that said. " come on in.... so I can blow your $&@ing head off" . Hehe. Wasn't very nice but ut made me feel better.
Good luck with the packing... Yuck!
BJ,
Perhaps it's a good thing that the police didn't get in touch with you. . .you'd have been beside yourself trying to explain the moving accessories away to them, dear friend!!! Put it behind you, dear one, and continue forward to the prize. New home and order coming soon!!!
Fondly,
Pat
So glad it turned out OK. I am sure the police could tell that your house was clean, just in a bit of an upset. I am sure they know the difference between that and dirty!
Alarms can be a nuisance, but so nice to have if needed!
Wow what an adventure. Glad everything turned out ok. I am sure the cops have seen a lot worse and seeing all the boxes probably knew you were in the process of getting ready to move. Have a blessed day. Madeline
Oh no!! Thank goodness it was not a thief!!
Oh boy you are lucky it was just a simple thing like the door blowing open! We were robbed when I was 6 yrs. old and I still have memories of being scared and feeling like someone was still in our house. One time my brother in-law was the last man out of our house when we went away for a weekend to visit family....apparently he didn't secure the door and it blew open about 10 inches...in the winter no less...we were not happy! Anyway, I'm sure the police could summize you were either getting ready for the holidays or packing?? I would've been embarassed too...but then if they had seen all my containers I brought up for holiday decorating they would have surely thought I was a hoarder!! Your girls are cute! Now about that phone!! Put it on loud and keep it close by! That's funny about the odd tihngs that happen with your cars and the neighbors garage door! I think I'd make the security company change out their controller!
Oh my goodness reminds me of a funny story. Our cats used to set the alarm off at night. Finally had to quit turning it on! I always worry about strangers seeing my house. Aren't we weired.
Must be sisters!
Glad it all turned out ok. Thank you for the smiles today.
Have a great day.
Sherry
Great story, BJ - glad it all turned out ok. Too funny...Happy Tuesday - Tanya
BJ,
Glad everything turned out fine in the end.
I was surprised to see that you got snow yesterday. Sunday it was 80 degrees here and yesterdays high was 54. This morning I get up to 28 degrees-crazy weather! You know the saying "If you don't like the weather in Texas, just stick around, it will change soon. lol
Have a great Tuesday!
Hahaha...I was giggling thru this whole post - I could imagine it every step of the way...good thing those cops didn't take any of your checked treasures!! Love the cartoon at the end of the older couple! Happy packing!
If you really want to know what was going through the minds of those police officers, go down to the police station and pick up the police report. When I went to see my grand daughter once in Japan someone opened our back door, setting off the alarm. According to the police report the door was left open, there were muddy footprints inside the doorway and there was a mean dog in the living room preventing further entry. I thought it was pretty funny because our dog is a sweet loving golden retriever and couldn't be mean to save her life - but odds are she saved our stuff that day! And - someone had cleaned up the muddy footprints before I returned home, so everything turned out quite alright.
You are moving? Where are you going, my friend? Of course that explains it all - I have NO excuse! Or, do I? Our daughter and her four children moved in with us a few months ago and they have just moved out. OK - so I DO have an excuse! So glad your home was safe and sound when you returned. Curious about your plans!
~Adrienne~
Oh my goodness, what a story! Haha. Hope things settled down for you. Chai tea sounds so yummy :)
Oh my goodness! I'm glad that it was all nothing at least. I'm sure the police figured out you were moving. (I hope! LOL)
Oh bj ... what a scare and with Mr. Sweet gone too. Glad everything turned out okay. I am sure the police that answered the call could quickly tell what was taking place in your house.
Blessings,

Timeless Treasures
Hi bj, I can so understand your experience with an open front door. I had a crazy thing happen years ago when our five children were young. It was Christmas time and on a Sunday we had a day when we had to be at three events in one day. Church, an open house and the Christmas play in the evening. It was rush, rush, in an out all day. When we left for church at night one of the kids left our front door open. Our neighbor called the police and when we arrived home there was a note from the police. "WE CAN'T TELL IF YOUR HOUSE WAS RANSACKED OR NOT" As I walked through the house it was a disaster. Drawers hanging open, no beds made clothes on the floor and complete havoc. I was mortified and couldn't stop laughing at the same time. The living room and dining room were perfect but the rest of our large 4 bedroom home was a mess. I am pretty much a person who has order and neatness at all times. I tell everyone this story when they accuse me of being a clean freak.
I am thankful all was well in your home. I am still laughing at your story. It hit home.
Love, Jeanne
What, no WHAT a story! Eons ago, when I was a teenager, we had a door on the front of the house that would simply open on its own. I use to hate it when it happened when my brother and I were by ourselves. No one believed me for the longest. Then, they discovered it and we put this little flip-lock on it for when we were in the house. Maybe that's your culprit, whatever ours was. Moving? Where ya going?
Glad this all turned out just right! Oh, cell phone? Mine's in my purse, it's on and I forget to turn it off. Cell phones? Bah-humbug? ;) Jenn
Oh noooooooooo!! Please forgive me for giggling through this. I'm only doing so because that is exactly the kind of thing that happens to me and I would be thinking the exact same thing about what the cops must have thought.
I'm not even moving, and trust me if they came here right now, they might possibly think I HAD been robbed.
ah oh! That sounds like something that might happen around here. I love the old folks and their sexual relations! Let us know if you get an answer to your google plus question. I don't really understand how any of it works even though I have some people in my circles!
Oh crazy day! Poor Mr. Sweet getting a call like that. But my favorite bit was the cartoon in the middle...laughed out loud and made John come in to see what was so funny. You're a nut!
Oh, BJ! This is too funny! But honey, I know exactly what you felt. I have boxes everywhere, too, and am always hauling tihngs from place to place. I would faint it someone had to come in here. LOL The DR is totally off limits to any human other than yours truly. It's wrappng paper central, and there is stuff for ten people's stockngs! And presents. All being wrapped to go elsewhere. LOL
Where are you moving??? I need to read and catch up. I am not blogging regularly right now, but Ihope to again soon.
Merry Merry!
XO,
Sheila
P.S. That is terribly sad about the nurse. My heart goes out to her family. One thing it taught me is you don't know from culture to culture or even from person to person what might be someone's undoing. Hence it's vitally important to handle others with care.
XO,
Sheila
Nope, don't have an alarm..just Mele! Oh..and that little couple? They are NOT alone. Our relations never bother to write either...NOT even at Christmas!! VERY FRUSTRATING! LOL NOT!!!
Hard to believe you are really moving! But...standing on one foot and then another waiting to SEE the new digs!
Hugs,
Mona
I am so glad you are safe! Your stories are so entertaining! What a sight for the police to see! HaHa!
I'm just now reading this post and like everyone else I'm glad it was just an blown open door.
I know about the phone and missed calls. I usually have my phone turned up high so I can hear it from any room in the house if I'm not carrying it around.
One day when I was home I missed calls from the hubby and daughter who called my mom and even a friend thinking that I had probably talked with them. Nope I was busy in my sewing room and forgot to turn my phone up. Oops.
Boy did I hear about that when I finally started calling everyone back.
Oh and Hobby Lobby loves taking my money... LOL
