It all started with a DREAM...
I DREAMED of having a cute little, really UNIQUE table
like no one else in the whole wide world would have...
and THEN...
DONNA SHOWED ME THE LIGHT !!
*did you hear those angels sing?
I KNOW you remember this little awesome SIGN TABLE that belongs to DONNA..
The table is supposed to give the illusion of an old, vintage sign, made into a tabletop.
She did such an awesome job that it has been featured in magazines.
Donna made her table her own STORY table by stenciling
THINGS THAT MEANT SOMETHING to her.
Go over and read her story...it's awesome.
ANOTHER blogger, RUSTIC DESIGNS, decided to make her own
OLD SIGN/ STORY table, using Donna's table as a guide.
Didn't she do an awesome job on it.
Just beautiful...
You might like to read HER story, too, pertaining
to the things she painted on HER table

These ladies, who've got their groove going, are sure makin' it hard on THIS OLE GIRL !

DAY 1
It was supposed to look like an old sign but it was SMOOTH...all one piece
so MR. SWEET, being the kindest man in the whole wide entire world,
routed it for me...
after KATHY and a few others, suggested it.
Sorry, I can't remember now just who all suggested using a router
but I want to thank everyone for all their wonderful suggestions.
Every idea was really good...Mr. Sweet decided routing might be the easiest way
so I said...
GO FOR IT, SWEET HONEY

Now, by this point,
I am PLENTY excited......
nothing like sawdust to excite the heck out of ya...
nothing like sawdust to excite the heck out of ya...
Just so you know I DID do some of the work..
I used my little handy dandy palm sander and went to town on that top.
It was as smooth as a baby's butt when I finished....
:)
Ahhhh.....here she is with her first coat of SATIN BLACK.
I'll add another coat in about an hour.
I'm in luv...
I like it just like this, too.
But....nope..not changing my mind here.
I have my white paint ready, waiting in the wings.
DONNA says to use a "whitewash" on it so that means, I THINK,
to add a little water to the paint...
I'm skeered......(4/25)

DAY 2
Mr. Sweet, being the bestest hubby in the state of TEXAS,helped me make made some stencils
to go along with ones I already had.
He made two different sizes of AWESOME stars...because I changed my mind right in the middle.
*sigh
It just got dressed in a creamy Country White whitewash...
(left over from another project)
and should be ready to stencil tomorrow...(4/27)
ooo boy...it's already looking like a sign.
"I'm still scaaaaaared to stencil....:((
Must remember to BREATH....
DAY 3
*UH OOOO...
The TEXAS LONE STAR turned out GREAT..
MR. SWEET made this stencil and it worked so good.
Oh but the other stencils...
first of all, we taped them all down with painters tape but...
I used waaaay too much paint and it allllll
RAN !
I was working on the table in the back yard and that paint RAN all the way out to the alley and back...
So, I just put KILZ on the ruined table last night (well, except for the GOOD star)
and just put another coat of WHITEWASH on it.
NOW,
I have been told by 2 bloggers that I need to use
SPRAY ADHESIVE to the backs of the stencils.
I am on my way to Walmart to get that.
I also watched a video on how to STENCIL WOOD
on GOOGLE and
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
you watching something like it if you've never stenciled before.
I saw right off that I used too much paint on my dobber thingy and
that they recommend a stenciling BRUSH...pickin' up one of those, too..*sigh
It all looks so easy.
...but....IT AIN'T !!!!!

LOVE IT!
I know that it will be fantastic, but just want to say that for the amount of fun you've already had, and for the beauty of that sweet lone star you could quit right now and have a great project!
Your table looks great dear BJ.
Talk about a cliff hanger!!! We are waiting for the next post! Looks great.
Hello BJ~ I've got a favor to ask...I would like to invite you over for a visit to see a very special post I've written. I would love it if you could take a few moments to stop by.
Thank you sweet friend,
Sara

It sure is a trial and error project but it is going to be fabulous. I like the Lone Star too if that's where it ends. Quite a conversation piece.
It really is looking good! I like that you're "keeping it real" on how involved it really is!
Why is it that projects appear to be so much easier on blogs than they are in my life? Every project requires at least a dozen trips to Home Depot. Then my OCDness (that i didn't know I had) jumps up and bites me.
I can't wait to see the final reveal. At least by posting this saga, you will be forced to produce SOMETHING, which is not always the case with my projects!
BJ, you are just the cutest thing ever! I love your enthusiasm for your project, heck, you're making me want to do one.
I can't wait to see it all finished. I know it will be a stunner!
hugs

Oh my gosh, what a wonderful job! I can't wait to see the finished beauty! Have a blessed day dear BJ, HUGS!
It is looking terrific and I am sure when you are finished you will not only have a beautiful table, but you will have gained a great deal of confidence.
Keep up the great work!
WOW!! It's looking great--can't wait!! And, can I borrow your precious Mr. Sweet way down here in Georgia?
What a success Bj; it is just beautiful; you must be proud of all your hard work.
Me too, I just love to hear the angels sing.
Yes I was 70 in December and that picture was taken when I was 69 and I'm still trying to keep up to you my friend!
Rita
Looks great! You really take a great idea and run with it, looking forward to the finished product. Now I'm following so I won't miss it :)
LUV, LUV, LUV your running description of the saga! :-) And your totally honest one too. "It ran!!!" Now you could have kept that secret and we'd not have known.
But nope, you were honest!
And thus, probably inspired others who are still too afraid to attempt such a project.
Way to go, BJ!!!!!!!!!
~♥~
In traditional stenciling with a big round stencil brush, one takes off way more paint by swirling it on paper towel. Then what little is left is dabbed into the stencil and, because there is so little paint, it doesn't run. Depth of color is achieved by repeated applications. It won't look as solid as your beautiful lone star. I'll be eager to see what remedy you come up with. I know that it's going to be great because you won't quit until it is.
Just think of how much you are going to love this table, because of all the work you did. It is going to be fabulous, I can just tell!!
Hugs,
PEnny
BJ, I'm Lovin your table! I'm waiting to see The Rest Of The Story... :)
Wow! It is so beautiful, BJ! And for $5, you can't beat that!!...Christine

darn girl you got it goin' on ! looking forward to seeing it all done up.
Not easy (some of us get it as we've tried) but the lone star looks terrific I think. Sometimes less really is more. Jane

OMGosh! You wrote like most of us think! lol I am kinda liking the Lone Star Of Texas...maybe you could turn it into a Texas Roadhouse sign? You do have those there, don't you? Or...or...you could do a confederate flag...or...or...oh..I guess you can come up with your own ideas, huh? Can't wait to see this baby finished and then I'll bet you won't be skeered' anymore! Hugs-Diana
