DANKE SCHOEN......

We don't speak GERMAN...
but....
we love WAYNE NEWTON'S beautiful and swingy song,
"DANKE SCHOEN"...
In German, "Danke schön" is equivalent to the English "thank you very much". It is similar to the English "thank you kindly." The polite response is "bitte schön," which translates roughly to "You are very welcome".
and we love
GERMAN PANCAKES
(image from the net.).
i forgot to take a photo while it was still in the skillet...:(
 It is  ONE BIG PANCAKE,
cooked either in a regular, round CAKE pan
or, as I did,
in a cast iron skillet..
It rises...
then falls into
 light and delicious !
They are thin...almost like a CREPE...
and you can add just ANYthing to them to make a really special treat.
I hear MAPLE SYRUP is a really good choice...
(Mr. Sweet's favorite)

Since CHERRIES are one of my very favorite fruits,
this is what I added..
Sweet, yet tart and,
O SO DELICIOUS
I buy the cans of TART CHERRIES (not the pie filling)
add a tiny bit of sugar, a little flour and water...
gently boil for a few minutes...they will thicken a little.
Dishes given to us for an anniversary gift....
altho they aren't my "style", I do like them and have enjoyed them a lot.

1/4 cup butter
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
6 eggs, lightly beaten
1/8 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in a medium baking dish. In a medium bowl, mix flour, milk, eggs and salt. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Bake on center rack in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, until golden brown.

OH  HONEY
Love and kisses,
bj

has a wonderful post on
REAL German pancakes today, too.
She was kind enuf to let me know about it and also
gave me a shout-out on her blog.
"Thanks so much, Maks"
She tells me that apples are mostly used with German pancakes.
I will use them the next time, Maks.

  2. Oh man how good that looks. As I blogged about about 3 months ago since being diagnosed with diabetes, I have had to turn my food choices around. I have done real well. Just made an Amazing Coconut Pie with Splenda and Bisquik. HH does not like sweets so the Splenda does not even bother him. I guess it is dry where you live. My son is just sick about no rain in his part of Texas and we are drowning in Ky.

  4. We love these, I always make them in a 9x13 and we call them "Monster Pancakes" because when the kids were little, they would run to watch them rise and fall through the oven window..like monsters! ;D

  6. Hmmm, I'm wondering if your German pancake is the same as my Dutch Baby. I love those things.

You sound like a gal who might be waking at 3 in the morning to watch the royal wedding...

  8. Well, Danke, BJ. These look delicious!

I love tart cherries so your combination sounds delicious to me.

I love to sing that song in front of my daughters. It irks them because I'm apparently pronouncing it incorrectly and I actually only know one line: Danke Shoen, darling danke shoen...

I just sing the one line over and over.

  11. Great post! I have a similar recipe called 'Dutch Baby.' I bake it in an iron skillet and it rises and then falls to form a bowl. While hot from the oven I prick it with a fork and sprinkle lemon juice over it and give it a dusting of 10X sugar. Then we fill it with sliced strawberries, blueberries, banana slices, fresh fruit of any combination! Topped with whipped cream it makes a delightful summer supper on a Sunday night!

    Yours looks absolutely DELICIOUS!!!

  14. Hi bj, I love crepes and German pancakes. My fave is lemon and powdered sugar. Mmmmm, so good I might make them tomorrow. I like your recipe.

We are having terrible weather with threats of tornado's. We are kind of afraid to go to bed until the threat is past. It is almost unheard of to have a tornado in the mountains, so I am not too concerned.

I am called Jeanne like if the i was there. I have been called Jeanne all my life but my first name is Sylva, again no i. Sylva was my grandmother's name but I have never used it. So we are both Jeanne/Jeanie and we both married a Bill. Sister friends for sure.

It is good to be home. I do not have plans to do anything for a while and no company is scheduled.Yay!

    Have a wonderful day tomorrow.
    Love, Jeanne
