A THRIFTING we will go....

Ever so often, I just HAVE to go get my THRIFTING FIX....
*

I've had these canisters for several years now...
Our local market sold them and my beautiful daughter and I both bought them..
*
Ever since MR. SWEET so kindly installed the BLACK and WHITE back splash
that I pitched a HISSY FIT for...
I've wanted SOLID WHITE canisters....with BLACK NUMBERS on them...
I saw them in some of the CATALOGS but I can't find them right now for a picture...
Too expensive for SWEET NOTHINGS cottage, tho....*sigh
**

Would you just LOOK !!
I found a BRAND NEW set of the white ironstone canisters
at GOODWILL....
yes, ma'am....still had the stickers on them.
*
No writing or numbers on them :(..... ......but....
I still LOVE THEM..
*
*
Actually... 6 canisters...
the SET and two extras...??
All for $15.00

I. LUV. IT.

*
*
I am wondering if I could PAINT black #'s on them ?
*
...or vinyl numbers ??...but, then, could I wash them ?
How cute they would be with

  2. What a great deal!!

If you know anyone with a Cricut machine, they can cut the numbers for you onto sticky-backed black vinyl.

  3. I agree, vinyl numbers or letters would work.
I am coming to your house for all that yummy food you had last week-end.

  4. That is one great find! Check with some place like Michael's or Hobby Lobby, If you find a knowledgeable clerk, they might suggest a paint that would work on ceramic and a number stencil. Or, maybe a paint store? In other words, I really don't know but all of the above are worth a try. And, if all else fails, they look good as is.

    Best,
    Bonnie

  8. Wooohooo! What great canisters!! They are going to be fabulous with numbers on them! Can you get a stencil and paint them on?

  9. These are so perfect BJ! What a great find. I think you have gotten some great advice on the numbers. Stick on, stencil on, there are paints made especially for glass and ceramic, you would probably have to wash them by hand.

  10. If you decide to put vinyl numbers on them don't forget you have connections! Free of charge of course, just because.

  11. What a treasure! You always find such wonderful goodies! I do think the vinyl numbers would work! They make all sorts of fonts and styles...Love,
    Sue

  12. Lucky you! I'm thrilled for you. I think you could use the vinyl numbers and just be careful when washing. It isn't as if you wash canisters daily...just wash them without soaking in water.

  13. Oh BJ what a deal you found at GW! You can get a special paint for glass/pottery...you could stencil the numbers on with that paint and then you can get a clear coat that they sell just for that. Who ever makes the paint makes the protective coating too or maybe now it's all in one. I know you could make your canisters look just as good if not better than the expensive new ones...go for it!! Have fun BJ!

  16. I love them BJ. You were right too - they are perfect with the b/w backsplash. I'm sure Mr. Sweet sees that now. Ha! I just purchased some chalkboard labels from Etsy that I put on my canisters. They are really cool and you can easily remove them and put them somewhere else.

  18. Love your new canisters! I have some just like them that I found at an estate sale. Mine are plain white but I think numbers or words would be great. I like the idea of the vinyl numbers and if they are on snugly I bet they wouldn't have a problem being washed. Hope you'll show us what you decide to do.

  19. Oh BJ Sweetie...
How beautiful these are, and won't they look delightful in front of your back splash. Now you know I have seen those decals that you rub onto glass, and surely they are made to seal too? I have seen them at Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Maybe they have numbers.

I would go the least expensive for me. I would just take a stencil and paint mine on. (They do make paint for glass.) and then seal it. I use clear fingernail polish to coat my jars I paint. Now I just paint right past the edges and give it several coats, and I can wash that with warm water and soap and let it air dry. When the edges start looking like they need a seal again, I just polish right back over them. BJ I buy the cheapest clear polish, no name brand, and I do have jars that I have painted on, that is still on there years later.

Well sweetie. I'll hop down off the soap box. I have shared my piece for today. I can't wait to see them finished. I know they will be beautiful.

Many hugs sweetie and so much love, Sherry

  35. Perfect!! Which GW do you visit? I always try to stop by the one just off Frankford and the new one in Wolfforth. Are there others I'm missing?

  36. Hi bj, your don't have to convince me to shop GW. I love that place in our town. Those are beautiful canisters in white. Lately our GW is a bit picked over. I still love shopping there though. New stuff comes in every day.

    Sending you hugs,

  37. What a find, BJ

I know you've received some good advice on putting on those numbers..my first thought was to use those clear decals...they have just about everything and anything printed on them and they could be washed I'm pretty sure. I'll bet Micheals or Hobby Lobby has them.

I'm visiting for White Wednesday. I'd love to have you come visit with me.

    Happy Day to you,
    Stephanie ♥

  38. I love your canisters. They are beautiful with your back splash.

I understand your addiction. I have to get my fixes too. I think welcome centers should provide maps to the nearest GW.My husband is convinced I have now gone over the edge :-)

  40. You can use ceramic paint...they will look adorable!...or how about some big numbered tags that can be removed before washing?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yeah, I gotta have my regular thrift store fix. Your canisters are FAB! I love then just the way they are!

    ReplyDelete
  42. If you scroll to the bottom of my blog and click on M-C you will find all my Mackenzie-Childs knockoffs and I think the 1st one to pop up will be the checks...let me know if that works

  43. Well BJ...I just read your newest post. Great finds!
Go to Michael's there is a paint for finished ceramic and glass. They won't wash off when done. There is a sealer and everything. They used to have one you put in the oven for so long and it was baked on. I think free hand would look good on those.
    Have fun ;)

  46. Hi BJ

    Love those canisters!! Great find.

I am popping by with a new address for Back Porch Musings...long story.

The back porch has moved to Typepad.

  47. Now THAT is so neat! But of course you can put your numbers on them. There has to be adorable numbers that stick on...somewhere. Wouldn't they be cute if they were RAISED. How about numbers they put on mailboxes. Some are very French looking. WOW! Yep..I would check those mailbox numbers ..the house numbers might be too large.
Anyway, sweet friend, that is my suggestion..for what it's worth.

I always look for an easy way out! :) Not to mention inexpensive!!
Hugs and love to you, bj!
