According to the American Cancer Society, about 1.3 million women will be diagnosed with breast cancer annually worldwide about 465,000 will die from the disease. I don't have breast cancer nor anyone in our family has it. I do have two very good friends that have fought it ......and both have won their fight. Praise be to our Heavenly Father and for all the awareness that is going on now. EARLY DETECTION is crucial ..

It is a cause that I have always felt very strongly about and is always on my mind. I don't have much money to donate......but, I CAN help to make awareness of this disease more available and....SO CAN YOU !

My grocery store, like yours, was full of PINK during
OCTOBER, BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH..
but WE CAN'T STOP THERE...we have to be reminded ALL YEAR LONG.....


I absolutely LOVE this.....
every time we see a touch of PINK, we remember our loved ones and friends
that have or have had this deadly disease and we
PRAY A LITTLE HARDER !

I am pretty sure I enjoy MY fireplace more than anyone else in the whole wide world...
All kidding aside...it is such a luxury to me.
There's not much that soothes my soul like a big, roaring fire on a cold day ....



and, I DO like a BIG fire....
the bigger...the better !!

When I can tear myself away from blogging (*grin) , I love to sit in front of my fireplace

with a good book !

I love fiction love stories BESTEST of all... oh, and the Christian love stories....

Nearly ALL books are good when read in front of a nice warm fire !!

Yep, I do love blogging while gazing into the fire..

I think I told you once, that my mom used to say if you stared at a fire, it would make you wet the bed!!

having a meal by the fireplace is just out of this world...

It can be a 4 course meal....or an afternoon snack of cookies and tea....

but, best of all to MOI, is

BREAKFAST IN FRONT OF THE FIRE....I luv it !
This morning I had a big bowl of white rice, sprinkled lightly with brown sugar,

a dusting of Cinnamon, of course, BUTTAH....

(my cousins call me GRITS..Girl Raised In The South)

toast and coffee....

all in front of my big, ole FIRE !

I told the story of my treasured and loved FRANKLIN FIREPLACE a long time ago but for those that missed it.

here 'tis again.......

This handsome young man, our son, DAVID KEITH......

is responsible for the fireplace being in my living room.

My mother bought this Franklin many, MANY years ago and Mr. Sweet Nothings installed it in HER living room. Mom's house (a very, very old one) was right next to a church and when she decided to sell, the church bought it. They intended making a parking lot on the property. THAT meant tearing down the house or moving it.

Mr. Sweet Nothings asked if we might remove the wood burner stove, repair the ceiling where the pipe went thru and he was given permission...so the work began before the moving or tearing down of the old house.

*

Long story short...that fireplace sat in my garage for several years..just waiting for a good time to install it.

(Mr. Sweet Nothings worked away from home and only home on weekends for years)

One Christmas when David was in collage, married and pretty much BROKE all the time...called and said, "Mom, for your Christmas gift, how 'bout I install that Franklin ?" (shoot...I'm squalling, just writing about it).
*

He got it installed, did all the brick work, which he had never done before, and it has worked like a charm ever since. It is, by far, the most beautiful thing in my living room....

BLOGGING TOO MUCH ?

ANYONE out there that thinks they may be spending way too much time.....BLOGGING ?

I mean...besides ME ?

I'VE noticed that I don't seem to have nearly as much time, getting together with my friends for a day of card playing and just having fun....

I'VE noticed that my bills are piling up 'cause I don't wanna leave my blog world and get them all paid...
oh, gosh....what if they turn off my ELECTRICITY....
no lights, no computer...BWAAAAAAA...NO COMPUTER !!!



I'VE noticed that I need to spend a whole lot more time in the KITCHEN....
cooking things for the freezer, making my own pie crusts, my own biscuits, my own dumplings instead of canned biscuits, my own roasted chicken instead of the one from the deli....
(not that I ever did all this BEFORE blogging...WHY NOW??...
feeling guilty 'cause.....


I COULD be saving a lot more money by PLANNING meals better.......
I'VE noticed that I have stacks of GREAT BOOKS to read but never seem to get around to reading them anymore....and I LOVE READING !!

I'VE noticed that I have THREE (3) bedrooms to paint...

I can't even find time to CHOOSE THE COLORS I want...

I started thinking about it the other day but, then, I thought of a GREAT subject for a posting on...

I'VE noticed I don't have nearly as much time for just relaxing with friends for an afternoon of tea and talking and enjoying each other....

The other day, one of these friends said something like "I don't hear from you as much as I used to and we never seem to get together enuf anymore." and here I was thinking she said, "Have you come up with some great things to post on your BLOG, that is now known as your LIFE SUPPORT ?"

I'VE noticed that my washing clothes has suffered....

when I find I have no more clean panties to wear today or

Mr. Sweet Nothings has one white sox and one black sox on this morning...

I am knowing I need to GET AWAY FROM THIS COMPUTER

so I can........

have nice, clean piles of LAUNDRY...

all I ask is for PILES OF CLEAN LAUNDRY...not even that they have to be put away...just CLEAN !

AND.....the hardest, most heart hurting of ALL....

I'VE noticed I don't find myself in my beloved THRIFT STORES as often as I used to...

OH.....THE SHAME OF IT ALL !

YES, LADIES.....I seem to be spending waaaaay too much time, holed up in my little computer room, bringing all my posting dreams to reality....there they are....all those post, pre-scheduled....sometimes

A WHOLE WEEKS WORTH...

now, as you know, THAT TAKES A LOT OF TIME..

and then, THE VISITING...

MY blog roll has grown to an astronomical amount and there's just NO WAY I can get around to everyone I would like to visit each and every day.

OOO, I know...I may LOOK like SUPERWOMAN...you've seen me in my costume....

but I said it once and I'll say it again...

and I am SLOW.....SO, if I don't visit as much as I should...please know I love ya and am thinking of ya...

OOO, I DID have time to make this big crock pot of BEEF STEW last night...

and a hugh plate of HOT WATER CORNBREAD, dripping with butter !

Ever had HOT WATER CORNBREAD before ?

O ! HONEY !

if i've given you this recipe before...sorry....maybe you lost it and you need it again...

no one should have to go thru life without

HOT WATER CORNBREAD

2 CUPS CORNMEAL

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 Tablespoon + 1 teaspoon bacon drippings (i use shortening but I LIKE bacon drippings better !)

boiling water

shortening

Mix cornmeal, salt and drippings with enuf boiling water to make batter thick enuf to shape.

Pat into thin cakes and fry in shortening...

Serve hot with butter...

WHEW....so down-home good it will make ya wanna slap your pappy !

A TEENY, TINY MAKEOVER....

REMEMBER how sad this table top setting looked...?

ONE reason being that things were not IN SCALE...

I didn't know what to do to FIX it...SCALE is something I know nothing about...

BUT, then, I asked YOU what to do and, being the FABULOUS blogging buddies that you are....

now these little bookends look positively GREAT wherever they are given a home...
couldn't hurt to TRY these....

I went shopping in THE CLOSET and there is not a single, tall, to*die*for, perfect lamp to replace the big, fat one with.....and Social Security says they are NOT paying for new lamps right now....
maybe later...

maybe the glass BAR SET was just too 'light" looking for this spot ?

seems to me that just a touch of color and the weightyness of the candles anchored the spot...
but...REMEMBER...
I don't know one thing about SCALE..or balance... so this all may be off, too.
For right now, tho, until I can find something I like better or that LOOKS better,
I am pretty sure I can live with THIS LOOK..... looks to me like things 'relate' more with each other...and I don't get the "head cocked to one side 'cause one end of the buffet looks heavier than the other" so doesn't that mean the 'weight' is better distributed??
AFTER ALL...this is just one little tiny spot in my living room...not a big deal...
It's just that each little spot makes up the BIG PICTURE and just like you,
I want my BIG PICTURE to be pretty !! :O)

I AM generally not one to "decorate" so much as just love having things around me that mean something...

meaning I don't go out and just buy something...ANYTHING...to fill a space. It HAS to be something I really love or else it doesn't come home with me....
