THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH.....

Ya know...I never knew just how much I DO love PINK until BEVERLY came into our lives...
*********
*
Be sure to go over to see BEVERLY at HOW SWEET THE SOUND and thank her for giving us another beautiful PINK SAURDAY
and there's many more ladies out there to offer their PINKS for you to drool over...

The CIRCUS is one of my fondest childhood memories...
*
and may I mention, right from the start, that, altho I wanted to
go to the circus SOOO badly today, not all the animals and circus
stars wanted to wear the magical color of PINK....
sooooo, being the TRUE PINK that I am, I just gave them
all a little PINK frame if they weren't wearing the magical color....!!
*
*
and THIS movie has always been one of my very favorites....
all about the 'workings' of a circus, the entainers, plus...
A SUPER LOVESTORY !!!
*
PINK COTTON CANDY...pure heaven on a stick ..
and
PEANUTS and POPCORN were always the fare at the CIRCUS...
*
CLOWNS...oh, how they made us kids laugh...so hard we would nearly wet our pants.
I'm not sure I have ever laughed THAT hard since..the kind of laugh that you can't catch your
breath nor uncross your legs and you just fall down on the ground, laughing and rolling.....
as only a HAPPY KID can do....
hahaaaa...
*
the minute the RINGMASTER entered the tent,
THE FUN BEGAN....
*
ALL the costumes were sooo pretty...well, at least to a child's eyes..
I do wonder now, how they kept them all clean and fresh looking...
not many travel trailers nor RV's when I was little...
the circus moved mostly with trucks and by train.
The costumes may have not been as clean nor as glamorous as
they seemed to my child eyes but in my mind,
they were BEAUTIFUL....
*
The FLYING TRAPAZE ARTISTS just held me spellbound ....
these must be practicing for a show that night...
*
the lions and tigers just scared the very living water right out of me and
I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT....
*
It is so amazing how they can train these big cats to do all the tricks they do...
so scary and fun ..
I can remember the sound of the cracking whip and my hair would almost
stand on end....the excitement just washed over us like water....
*
I still find in so amazing that these dangerous, wild beast
can be trained to do so many magnificent tricks...
I know that trainers have to be VERY careful and
knowledgeable in their art .....
but, oh, at the time I was 10, sitting inside that big tent...
I just knew that, AT ANY MOMENT, the tigers would
turn on their trainer and eat him alive...every part of him....

OH, BOY...did that thought make me tremble with excitement !!
*

MY VERY FAVORITE....
THE ELEPHANTS
*
(i know there's not a speck of pink or red in this
photo but.......such a COOL picture !! )
*

I always loved how, when following each other, the elephants
wrapped their trunks around the tail of the one in front of them....
Pretty cool...
*
*

SO big and so entertaining...
I can remember just setting on the edge of my seat the entire time of the whole circus...
especially when the elephants were doing their thing...
I will remember forever the sights, the smells, the sounds and
THE JUST PLAIN F.U.N.
of the circus !
*

and...how in the HECK, do you think, this HUGH beauty was ever trained to do THIS ?

Isn't it the most awesome thing....
*

*

AND THE PINK SATURDAY HUNK.....

MR. EMMET KELLY...
THE GREATEST CLOWN OF ALL TIME .
*
I hope you had a great time at the circus...I know I sure did..
When I was little, the circus was held in a hugh, canvas tent, held up with wooden poles.
It was decided to be unsafe and tents are no longer used, to my knowledge.
I have taken our kids and grand kids to see the circus...usually held in a large coliseum.
It just doesn't seem the same without the big, ole tent but when I watch
the joy, wonder and smiles in their eyes, I know THEY enjoy THEIR
type circus just as much as I enjoyed MINE....

XO bj

  1. The greatest show on earth is one of my all time favorite movies too. With Betty Hutton, James Stewart, Cornel Wilde among other names I forget at this moment. Beautiful movies and I must have seen it more than a dozen times. Thank you for reminding me.

  13. Hi Sweet BJ!

Oh what a wonderful post! That movie is one of my favorites too. It was my view of the circus as a child. I never knew of any circus coming to town when I was little so the movies were my peek into that world.
But my son & DIL took me to the Barnum & Bailey Circus several years ago as a surprise and I LOVED it!! So spectacular and exciting! We had our photo taken with clowns too. And my favorite was the elephants, so beautiful and majestic. An incredible memory for my treasure box!!
Thanks for the great post, I loved every second of it!!
    Hugs, Sherry

  23. I remember that movie still. I was a youngster when I saw it, but I remember how exciting it was to watch. I can still see Betty Huton flying through the air. That circus winters here in Fl, I won't bust your bubble, but it's not pretty. In fact the care of animals are in the paper today. Unfortunatly.

    Hugs,
    Chris

  24. I LOVE Emmet Kelly! My grandpa used to have an EK doll back in the 50's. It would probably be worth a FORTUNE today, but I don't know what ever happened to it.
    Happy PS!

  45. Great post, BJ. Now get ready for another Pat Story!!
Mr Emmett Kelly, Weary Willy himself, grew up on a farm in the Ozarks!! Yes he did.

When I was in 10th grade, we moved from my hometown of Lebanon MO. A new hospital opened in Houston Missouri, that's in Texas County,by the way. My mother was one of the charter employees of the hospital and lived in Houston for many years. In later years she was a visiting nurse. My niece still lives in Houston. Every year they have Clown Days, in honor of Emmett Kelly. The farm where, Emmett Kelly grew up was outside Houston. I went to school with kids who lived on the farm, after E Kelly had moved away and become famous.

  48. Wow! You have the best posts. I remember the "Greatest Show on Earth." I also remember that each year my great-uncle took me to the circus. It was wonderful. Like you, I thought that the costumes were beautiful. It seemed that the circuses of my youth had so much more than circuses do today.

  50. For Pete's Sake! All I did was come over here to tell you that I don't know of a cure for our obsession and then I saw something on your page and HAD TO CLICK ON THE ICON and then got stuck in ETSY for a while and then had to remind myself that I had to come here to tell you that I don't have a cure for our problem!

My dogs are clawing at the back door and want inside...do you think I could train a German Shepherd and a Golden Retriever to use cat litter?

  53. I love the circus. From the time my kids were old enough to enjoy it...my mom would buy front row center ring seats to the Ringling Brothers circus every year. In fact she bought them for so long that they actually held the seats for her each year. The kids loved it so much..and so did me and my mom. It's one of my favorite things and I miss it now that my kids are grown and I have no excuse to go lol. Thanks for bringing back precious memories!
