SOME MORE FAVORITE ROOMS *SIGH*

As some of you know, I browse RATE MY SPACE for pretty rooms and store them in a file, just like drooling over pretty magazine pictures and putting them in a file.

I have shared this picture before...it is one of the prettiest bathrooms I've seen and it just so happens to belong to BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER.... I have had several baths in that to-die-for, vintage tub and she even served me WINE. It doesn't get any better than THAT! :)

This pretty wallpaper might be a little "busy" for some but I just love it. I also love the way she hung the large picture frame over the candle holder and smaller painting. I've tried doing things like that and they just end up looking very strange.....???

I fell in love with her black and white tile...and that large rooster up there's not bad, either!!

AHHHHHH, this dining room is so serene. Just look at that toile paper and the chandeliers.....and that fabulous, long table. Don't you know they have had some awesome family time in there?

I just love this built-in, large cabinet in this old house. Look at the size of the molding beside her doorway......

I love her twin wreaths here...and the tall candle holder.

Aren't the colors pretty here? So restful and calm.

I would dearly love to see this room in person. I really like her drapes here. Looks like the ones that are added just for softness....I like that!

I do LOVE this dining room. It makes me want to go through my entire house with a can of creme colored paint. I love her furniture. And the softness of the little round table with it's colorful dressing is just perfect for that spot. How did she know that is what that corner needed? Amazing!

*SIGH.........

And...how precious is this topper? Oh, my goodness.....

Aren't these plaid drapes so pretty. And, I love how she covered her chair cushions in different patterns but in the same color range. What a delightful area to have great meals together.

If I could get up every morning to a calm, classic kitchen like this, I would love it! Isn't it a pretty one!!

IF I've used pictures of YOUR rooms, please consider it a compliment and I thank you.

AHHHHAAAAAA,HAAAAAAA, HAHAHAH,........

I just got this in an email and HAD to share with you....I am still laughing out loud.....

CAUTION: Be prepared to laugh out loud... All hair removal methods have tricked women with their promises of easy, painless removal - The epilady, scissors, razors, Nair and now...the wax.

My night began as any other normal weeknight. Come home, fix dinner, play with the kids. I then had the thought that would ring painfully in my mind for the next few hours: 'Maybe I should pull the waxing kit out of the medicine cabinet.' So I headed to the site of my demise: the bathroom. It was one of those 'cold wax' kits. No melting a clump of wax, you just rub the strips together in your hand, they get warm and you peel them apart and press them to your leg (or wherever else) and you pull the hair right off. No muss, no fuss. How hard can it be? I mean, I'm not a genius but I am mechanically inclined enough to figure this out. (Ya think!?!) So I pull one of the thin strips out. It's two strips facing each other stuck together. Instead of rubbing them together, my genius kicks in so I get out the hair dryer and heat it to 1000 degrees (cold wax, yeah, right). I lay the strip across my thigh. Hold the skin tight and pull. It works! Okay, so it wasn't the best feeling, but it wasn't too bad. I can do this! Hair removal no longer eludes me! I am She-Rah, fighter of all wayward body hair and maker of smooth skin extraordinaire. With my next wax strip I move north. After checking on the kids, I sneak back into the bathroom, for the ultimate hair fighting championship. I drop my panties and place one foot on the toilet. Using the same procedure, I apply the one strip across the right side of my bikini line, covering the right half of my 'hoo-hoo' and stretching down to the inside of my butt cheek (yes, it was a long strip) I inhale deeply and brace myself.....RRRRIIIIIPPPPP!!!!! I'm blind!!! Blinded from pain!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! Vision returning, I notice that I've only managed to pull off half the strip. CRAP!!!! Another deep breath and RRIIPP!!! Everything is whirly and spotted. I think I may pass out...must stay conscious...Do I hear crashing drums??? Breath, breathe...okay, back to normal. I want to see my trophy - a wax covered strip, the one that has caused me so much pain, with my hairy pelt sticking to it. I want to revel in the glory that is my triumph over body hair. I hold up the strip! There's no hair on it. Where is the hair??? WHERE IS THE WAX??? Slowly I ease my head down, foot still perched on the toilet. I see the hair. The hair that should be on the strip. I touch. I am touching wax. CRAP!!! I run my fingers over the most sensitive part of my body, which is now covered in cold wax and matted hair. Then I make the next BIG mistake...remember my foot is still propped up on the toilet? I know I need to do something. So I put my foot down. DANG!!! I hear the slamming of a cell door. 'Hoo hoo'?? sealed shut! Butt?? sealed shut! I penguin walk around the bathroom trying to figure out what to do and think to myself, 'please don't let me get the urge to poop. My head may pop off!' What can I do to melt the wax? Hot water!!! Hot water melts wax!! I'll run the hottest water I can stand into the bathtub, get in, immerse the wax covered bits and the water should melt and I can gently wipe it off, right??? WRONG!!!!! I get in the tub - the water is slightly hotter than that used to torture prisoners of war or sterilize surgical equipment - I sit. Now, the only thing worse than having your nether regions glued together is having them glued together and then glued to the bottom of the tub...in scalding hot water. Which, by the way, does not melt cold wax. So, now I'm stuck to the bottom of the tub as though I had cement epoxied myself to the porcelain!!! God bless the man who had convinced me a few months ago to have a phone put in the bathroom!!!! I call my friend, thinking surely she has waxed before and has some secret of how to get me undone. It's a very good conversation starter. 'So, my butt and hoo-hoo are glued together to the bottom of the tub!!' There is a slight pause. She doesn't know any secret tricks for removal but she does try to hide her laughter from me. She wants to know exactly where the wax is located, 'are we talking cheeks or hoo-hoo?' She laughing out loud by now...I can hear her. I give her the rundown and she suggests I call the number on the side of the box. YEAH RIGHT!!! I should be the joke of someone else's night. While we go through various solutions, I resort to scraping the wax off with a razor. Nothing feels better than to have your girlie goodies covered in hot wax, glued shut, stuck to the tub in super hot water and then dry shaving the sticky wax off!!! By now the brain is not working, dignity has taken a major hike and I'm pretty sure I'm going to need Post-Traumatic Stress counseling for this event. My friend is still talking with me when I finally see my saving grace...the lotion they give you to remove the excess wax. What do I really have to loose at this point? I rub some on and OH MY GOD!!! The scream probably woke the kids and scared the dickens out of my friend. It's sooo painful, but I really don't care. IT WORKS!!! It works!!! I get a hearty congratulations from my friend and she hangs up. I successfully remove the remainder of the wax and then notice to my grief and despair...THE HAIR IS STILL THERE...ALL OF IT!!! So I recklessly shave it off. Heck, I'm numb by now. Nothing hurts. I could have amputated my own leg at this point. Next week I'm going to try hair color...

LOOK-ALIKES...well, ALMOST

I was enjoying a piece of this Strawberry cake and looking around, I realized that I have several "look-alike" pieces of furniture in my house....

I have never been able to buy a lot of NEW, really nice furniture so I have always picked out what I like in a catalog or magazine and then....hit the thrift stores and garage sales to see if I can find something SIMILAR to the item I really like.

Sometimes I can get really close or at least close enough that I am happy with it. That's all that matters, after all.

I have always admired this type of hutch...open, with shelves. When I replaced our old dining table with a newer one (but, it's used, also!!), I used the table beneath shelving my Sweet Hubby made and came up with something fairly close to this........

I was thrilled with the way it turned out. Especially after I painted it all with my favorite red paint!!

I really wanted something like this for my living room so, again, I hit the thrift stores.... (this one from Pottery Barn was waaaay out of my budget! :(

A vintage white and gold dresser bottom, $50.00 at the thrift shop, painted black, gave me the same look for several hundred dollars less. When I hit the lottery, I may visit Pottery Barn and replace this with one of their beautiful pieces....and, then again.....I may find something else I'd rather spend my money on and just keep this little $50.00 buffet ! :)

Pottery Barn's version of the neatest storage unit....soooo expensive.

I painted my old bookshelf black and filled it with baskets. I bought the baskets at 50% off at Michaels. I use them for everything from little games, yarn, dvd's.....all sorts of things.

I think this metal table is so cool....and I love the stools beneath. Several hundred dollars.....I "no can do" so I took off again for thrift store row!!!

Neat metal table with really THICK glass, $16.00 ....the two little foot stools are from Big Lots.....

Oh, I know my versions of Pottery Barn's fabulous furniture doesn't even come close but...I am fairly happy with my pieces and REALLY happy with the savings. I love getting ideas from their catalog and others and, as I've said before, then the 'thrill of the hunt' kicks in and I am a happy camper!

If you find pieces that you love, can't really afford them right now, there's always "gently used" pieces out there that you can revamp and make into your dream pieces!! And.....it's so fun! Plus using some of these pieces can give your room a sense of evolving over a period of time. This is a GOOD thing.
************************
Oh......and the cake? Just a simple Strawberry box cake mix, Strawberry Icing in the can, fresh Strawberries mixed in with the icing and some strawberries served on the side. Not a thing magical here nor any thing "home made" but, with vanilla ice cream, it sure tasted good!!! :o)

Happiness, bj

MY DINING ROOM ~

Wonderful morning to everyone...I hope you had a fantastic weekend....

After posting my bargain, garage sale blue rug, several ladies asked to see more of my dining room. Thank you very much for wanting to see it. Please keep in mind that I know NOTHING of scale, style, decorating and etc. I just love thrifting and love putting together the things I find that I want to become part of who I am. There's nothing in this dining room that is new...all are thrifts or made by my talented Sweet Hubby. Our son calls this our OCCASION ROOM.....*smiles*

This is looking through the pass-through from my kitchen.....I think I've mentioned to you before that the pass-through is the handiest thing. I just love it!! Tile on it makes it fabulous to sit hot pans or dishes down, let it cool a bit and carry it right to the table. Sweet Hubby and Handsome Son did all of our tile and they did a mighty fine job, I might add. Both fellas are such keepers!:)

I LOVE table cloths....and I change out pretty often. This is when I was in my RED mood....probably getting close to Christmas time. The fireplace in the background is an antique, pine mantel I found at a thrift store about 5 years ago. I have REALLY enjoyed it and have had fun changing out the different things on it for a different look. I never change the picture hanging above it...it is a KENNETH WYATT painting of JESUS CHRIST that I am very proud of and never tire of. It looks fabulous, no matter the season!!

My bold, black sign that Beautiful Daughter brought to me once from a trip she took. It is one of my favorites and I love the way it is made.

Just a display on the top of my red hutch that Sweet Hubby made for me. Well, he made the top part.....the bottom is an old harvest table we've had for over 40 years, painted red.
You can see part of the red hutch on the left...I'll post it another time.

Sweet Hubby made the magazine rack, too....Isn't he talented? He can build absolutely anything. He's super talented with his hands. I will later post a picture of a television cabinet he made for us that is fabulous.

This wire rack sits in one corner of the room. It was just a display rack in a lumber yard that was going out of business. It was $5.00 bucks, I spray painted it green and put large tiles on it to hold a few of my treasures!! I am on the look-out for a fabulous LARGE, pine hutch to replace it but this is working for the time being.....

This picture shows a little more of the room but still couldn't get the whole thing in....the red hutch sits to the left side. See how large the rug is? I love that you can pull the chairs out and they stay on the rug.

Shhhhhh.....I really want to paint the chairs and table but Sweet Hubby nearly loses all his hair each time I mention it. So, for now, I must be happy with the natural color. *someday***

I have several things I want to do to this room sometime....but it is such a comfortable, large room for our large family of 17 and we do enjoy it. The big table seats 10, 12 in a pinch. The benches that scoot under the table when not in use, seats 4 little butts or 3 bigger ones and I have several chairs. Most of the time, the little ones eat at the bar in the kitchen.....I've mentioned before that we belong to a home church group and our dining room is well used when they meet over at our house.

oops, sorry...this is the same picture as above...and I just noticed that the silverware isn't on the table in these pictures yet...

You can see that I am no decorator! As I've said, I don't really know the first thing about it all. I just know what I love and like having around me.

We all love peeking inside each others homes so will you post pictures of your dining room, space, area? I, for one, would LOVE to see it.....

HAPPY DINING ~

MIDNIGHT SNACK ~

I was watching FOOD NETWORK late last night and they had big, thick BELGIAN waffles, sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar....Made me so hungry, I nearly died.

I don't have a Belgian Waffle maker so I just made some regular Buttermilk Waffles and sprinkled them with the cinnamon and powdered sugar and they could not have been ANY better. So yummy....especially for a late night snack...

***********************

We are going on a day trip today so I will be away from my computer. I will try to catch you on Monday!
Ohhhhh, and YEE-HA!....SPELL CHECK IS WORKING AGAIN !

Have a very blessed Sunday ~

A SATURDAY MIX

Beautiful Daughter and kids brought me this ADORABLE pink plate and French Chocolate candy bar and I just love, love, LOVE 'em!! The plate and candy bar, too!!! :) lol

"Forget love......I'd rather fall into chocolate !"

Sweet Hubby and I went to a garage sale and found this beautiful, French Blue and cream HUGH area rug. It is a 12 x 14, in EXCELLENT condition and was only $25.00. I was jumping on one foot and then the other because I KNEW how great this would look in my Country French dining room..... Oh, and that blue and white bench is one of two that Sweet Hubby made for either side of our large dining table.

We went to a store here called THE RUG DEPOT and found the exact rug. In that large size, it was $600.00. I nearly passed out, right there in the store.

With all the blue I already had in my dining room, this baby fit right in.
The lady that sold it to us was redecorating and didn't want to use blues any longer. How lucky for ME !!

Hope your Saturday is fabulous ~

IN THE PINK ~

THE PINK WINGED WARRIOR ~

In case you haven`t met Beverly Hendricks of San Antonio, Texas, please take a moment to learn about her mission to educate the world about the statistics of Breast Cancer. Since being diagnosed herself in December of 2003, Beverly has not only mustered up the strength to fight through her own personal battle with breast cancer, but she`s so selflessly driven "awareness" to the next level. Literally! For two years, Bev, her devoted family and several generous volunteers put their heart, sweat and tears into the re-birth of a 1960 Shasta Trailer now known as "THE PINK WINGED WARRIOR”. What is she going to do with a pink Shasta trailer you ask? Well, this is what she had in mind, before the PWW was born:“I became determined to find an old camper, fix it up, and attend camping and Breast Cancer Awareness events across the US to tell women like me about the statistics.” And so, she travels…
"People ask me all the time, "Why did you really do this?" My answer to them is simple...What else could I have done? I am not a Doctor, Chemist, or Surgeon. I know nothing about Chemo or Radiation except how it feels to receive it...I do not have millions or even hundreds of dollars to get this information to the next family it is likely to effect. So I will do it my way ...in a Little PINK Travel Trailer, and effect as many people as I can. I hope you can share in the joy of the journey with me. PINK Huggs! Beverly Hendricks"

If you'd like to read Bev's entire story, or see more photos and slide shows, please visit her myspace page at: The Pink Winged Warrior Kudos to you, Bev! To say you're making a difference would be an understatement. You are a real Hero. 1 in a Million, you could say! XOXO

She and SO many other brave women are helping to educate all of us on this dreaded disease. EVERY ONE OF YOU ARE HEROS ~ and I go down on my knees for you.

Prayers and hugs to all of you,
bj
